The coat of arms of Canberra, Australia depicts a shield that contains a rose (symbolic of the Duke of York), a three-towered castle (symbolic of the three branches of government), sword (symbolic of the Australian Defence Force), mace (symbolic of the Parliament of Australia) and imperial crown (symbolic of Royal authority). The shield is supported by a black swan and a white swan, which represent the Aboriginal people and white settlers, respectively.
