India Emblem
The coat of arms of India, or emblem of India features four (one is hidden) Asiatic lions, standing back to back, standing on a circular abacus that has a frieze carrying high relief sculptures of an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull, and a lion separated by intervening Dharmachakra or Ashoka Chakra wheels over a bell-shaped lotus. The lions represent power, courage, pride and confidence. It is derived from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka, which was erected by Emperor Ashoka the Great on the spot where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma and also where the Buddhist Sangha was founded. It was adopted on January 26, 1950[2].
