Quebec Coat of Arms (City)
The coat of arms of the city of Quebec, Canada was adopted on September 22, 1988. Its shield is divided into two sections. The upper section depicts two gold keys on a red background bordered in gold. The keys symbolize Quebec's role as the capital of New France and capital of the province of Quebec. A green maple leaf is depicted between the two keys, which represents Canada. The lower section of the shield features a golden ship sailing (representative of the city's importance as a seaport) with full sails (symbolizing strength and courage) on a series of alternating white and blue horizontal wavy lines (representing the St. Lawrence River). A scroll at the bottom contains the city's motto: "Don de Dieu feray valoir", meaning "Gift of God shall make prosperity"[1].
